Curecanti National Recreation Area

Named after a Ute Chief, the Curecanti National Recreation Area  takes in three of Colorado's most striking reservoirs, separated by dams along the Gunnison River. The area runs west from Gunnison up to the eastern edge of the Black Canyon National Park. Colorado's largest lake, Blue Mesa Reservoir, is the main attraction offering fishing, boating, and camping. Marrow Point Reservoir and Crystal Reservoir are harder to access but offer spectacular scenery flanked by steep canyon walls. Steep but rewarding hiking trails lead down to the lakes and secluded trout fishing.
